The Straight Rib
One of my 4 different mug shaped ribs: The Straight gives you a solid straight up form with an indented foot. This shape is perfect for underglaze or slip transfer decorating techniques.
As with all my ribs, I designed them to have a sharp angled edge so it acts a bit like a metal rib that scrapes the slip/water covered surface off your pot as you are forming the piece. They have an inbuilt foot shape reducing the trimming your pot needs at the leather hard stage and elevates your pot off the ground, providing visual interest and a lightness to the final form.
This tool comes with a small magnet on the back so you can store it on a magnetic tool rack – no more rooting around in drawers or tubs trying to find the tool you need!

Using form ribs like this takes some practise, my best advice is to throw your pot to a similar shape of the rib and then use the rib to finesse the shape. I have found that about 480g of clay is perfect for this rib.
These ribs now come in 3 sizes:
Mini: 7cm tall
Standard: 10.5cm tall
Maxi: 15cm tall.

This is a made to order 3D printed item. It is made out of PLA filament which is a recyclable, natural thermoplastic polyester that is derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugar cane. It is biodegradable under certain conditions.
