The Outie Rib
One of my 4 different mug shaped ribs works nicely as a pair with The Innie as the angles are reflected: The Outie gives you a gentle, outward forming cone shaped mug with an indented foot.
As with all my ribs, I designed them to have a sharp angled edge so it acts a bit like a metal rib that scrapes the slip/water covered surface off your pot as you are forming the piece. They have an inbuilt foot shape reducing the trimming your pot needs at the leather hard stage and elevates your pot off the ground, providing visual interest and a lightness to the final form.
This tool comes with a small magnet on the back so you can store it on a magnetic tool rack – no more rooting around in drawers or tubs trying to find the tool you need!
This rib comes in 3 sizes:
- Mini: 7cm tall
- Standard: 10.5cm tall
- Maxi: 15cm tall.
For left handed potters who have their wheel spinning clockwise, please select the Left handed option (LH).
Using form ribs like this takes some practise, my best advice is to throw your pot to a similar shape of the rib and then use the rib to finesse the shape. I have found that about 500g of clay is perfect for this rib.
