I also use this tool when attaching handles, applying underglaze transfers or slip decorating as it adds stability to the clay. It also provides a handle to you to turn your pot when on a banding wheel so you can avoid touching your newly painted pot surface.
This is a made to order 3D printed item. It is made out of PLA filament which is a recyclable, natural thermoplastic polyester that is derived from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugar cane. It is biodegradable under certain conditions.

I haven't actually had the opportunity to use this yet, but it is very good quality. I can't see any reason why it may not work to help me keep my mugs in shape while I attach the handles. I am also planning to use it to help keep the inside of my mugs free of being splashed with slips and under-glazes while I decorate them.
Started using this the second I got it out of the box! Worked perfectly, and made straightening my mug rims a whole lot easier. Arrived quickly, and well wrapped as well.
